Q: What should I wear?

A: Any loose, comfortable clothing and exercise shoes (flat bottom is best).

Q: Is it safe for my back and knees?
A: Yes, Tai Chi is very safe for one’s back and can help to strengthen the knees, since you will learn proper alignment.

Q: Is it hard physical exercise?
A: No, beginning tai chi is practiced in a very relaxed, conscious and slow manner.  It is low impact exercise. Nevertheless, your leg strength and balance will improve considerably.

Q: How long does it take to learn?
A: You will learn the basics in the 12-week Beginner Course. After that, you can progress into the form class, and continue learning for as long as you like. Many people study and practice tai chi for a lifetime.

Q: Is Tai Chi a religion?
A: No, it is not religion, nor is it related to any political view. Many people do report a greater spiritual awareness;
Tai Chi has very calming and centering effect. This would be an enhancement to anyone’s religious practices.

Q: Do I need to be coordinated or athletic?
A: No, anyone that can walk, can learn to do Tai Chi. You learn and progress at your own level.

Q: How long does it take to get results?
A: You will feel better after the first class.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Cost varies upon the number of classes taken per week and whether the student pays by month or term (three months). The prices listed below are for classes held at the Golden Flower Tai Chi Center in Winston-Salem, NC only. For pricelists outside of Winston-Salem, contact the other listed locations.

Q: Are there any additional fees?
A: Yes. There is a $36.00 annual registration fee.
