Natural Horsemanship

The gentle art of Tai Chi uses communication, listening with your whole being, and clear intention to achieve miraculous results.

These same principles are the foundation of Golden Flower’s Natural Horsemanship Training.

We invite you to come make some new, life-long friends like Dakota, Kayel and Star and the other gentle and wise horses who are here to be your teachers.  Below are bios and photos of each of the 11 special souls in our herd who live at our Retreat Center, Heavenly Way.

You are also invited to adopt one of the animals in our Buddha-Herd by making a donation. Each horse carries a unique, special energy and would be happy to send some love your way.  We are grateful to offer a home to these beauties and greatly appreciate your contributions to their care and upkeep.  Keep reading to learn about how the horses can help you in your life journey.

Horses have so much to share with us. They live every moment in the “now,” and they are happy to teach you to live there with them.

Spend the Day with the Horses

During our Natural Horsemanship Seminars you will learn about yourself, reflected in the way the horse interacts with you. They are listening to you all the time and are asking you to be their partner. Our Trainer, Al Trippe, uses his mastery in natural horsemanship to carefully guide each person and horse on their journey. When you are ready, he shows you how riding these amazing creatures will empower you, teach you about trust, and remind you about “play”.

Dollie and Cutter sharing  Dollie and Cutter

We were so happy to be able to rescue Dollie and Cutter from the terrible circumstances that had already left one horse dead. They were both in bad physical shape, malnourished and very frightened. Despite the treatment they had received from their previous caretakers, right away they choose to connect and join up with the Heavenly Way Humans, no questions asked. Their only request was to stay as close to each other as possible. Whenever they were separated they would both panic and become agitated. They wanted to trust us, but needed the comfort of each other’s company to get through to the other side of their trauma. We have happily honored their request, and for the past six months they have had a pasture and a run all to themselves, adjoining the Tai Chi practice space which allows them to keep a close eye on us.  They have been well fed, well groomed and well loved. They are both now very healthy, happy and trusting of their new caretakers. We are excited that they are now ready to begin working with us and being introduced into the rest of the Golden Flower Herd. We are sure they will be ready for your (and their) riding enjoyment very soon.

zulu (3)

 Zulu

Zulu is an Arabian and the baby of the group. He says, “Actually, I’m not a baby anymore, but I am quite young and definitely the cutest!  I love to prance around the property with my tail raised and impress you with my gracefulness.”

robertWhen Robert came to Heavenly Way, he had been nicknamed “Little Horse”, an irony as he is the biggest horse in the herd. He is also the gentlest horse at Heavenly Way with a wonderful Buddha-energy.  He loves small children and takes special care of them when they are on his back or petting his nose. Robert is also a wonderful trail horse. Everyone who gets to ride Robert, falls in love with him.

Dakota

Dakota

Dakota has sparkling blue eyes and a playful spirit. “They will tell you I am mischievous, but actually, I simply have a great sense of humor and like to have a little fun with my caretakers. I also love it when Sangee brings me cookies.”

Star

Star

“I’m the boss of the herd; need I say more?” Star is a strong, clear leader with his fellow horses, and really enjoys people as well.  His riders appreciate his strong spirit and always have a good time. It is easy to tell from the way he carries himself that he thinks he’s a handsome dude, which of course, is true.

angelAngel

Before Angel came to Heavenly Way she had not had any training.  “I am a beautiful, Arabian girl, and I needed to take my time adjusting to direction, but I am learning a lot and  continue to respond well to my trainers. Chance is my favorite horse and Annukka is my favorite human.”

Cayel

Kayel

Kayel is a Hafflinger, a breed that is known for strength and traditionally used for heavy tasks.  “So I am very sturdy looking, but I’m also a gorgeous blonde.  They seem to think I should be thinner and keep putting me on diets, which I’m not a fan of, but I also get special training regimens, which are fun.” Kayel is responding well to her new trainings and offers a very nice ride.

cricket

Cricket

They say the best things come in the smallest packages. So true with Cricket, Golden Flower’s “miniature horse.” What he lacks in size he makes up for in personality and style with his long, flowing blonde hair and silky coat. Cricket loves giving children rides or just letting them hug his neck. He says, “I’m very, very happy to be at Heavenly Way and love being around my humans… especially the little ones. Come and see me, I would love to show you the beauty of my pasture.”

pappyPappy

Pappy is a former racehorse. He is easy going with beginners, but with an experienced rider who knows how to handle him he can still run like the wind. His sweet disposition makes him a favorite for people who are just learning to ride and be around horses. He seems to tune into your level of physical comfort and degree of experience, and then proceeds to take care of you.  “But don’t sell me short! I am the fastest runner at Heavenly Way and can give you a fantastic ride—you just need to ‘ask’ me properly.”

chanceChance is a charmer. He can strike a pose like no other horse you have ever seen. With one back leg splayed out to the side, he looks quite amusing.  He also has an incredibly flexible neck—so much so that he can scratch his hind quarters with his teeth. “ Seriously though,” says Chance, “I have captured the hearts of a number of women who have attended horse seminars, and as a Tennessee Walker, I trot with a very smooth gate.”

amigo 2

 Amigo The Donkey

“I was the first large four-legged animal to arrive at Heavenly Way and have been classified as ‘a character’.  I love to play with the horses and tease my caretakers with my cleverness. For example, they do their best to keep me corralled, but I have unlocked the gates more than once and given everyone a run for their money.”

bunnyBunny came to the farm at Easter time and she has extra large ears–hence, her name.  “I am Amigo’s significant other, which I regularly and loudly proclaim.” Like Amigo, Bunny is one of the smartest four-leggeds at Heavenly Way, so don’t underestimate her.
